VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING INSTITUTE

The pace of growth in the Triangle is tremendous.  There is, and will continue to be, increased need for skilled tradespersons to facilitate construction growth in our region.  Despite high demand for these positions, there is a very limited supply of work-ready individuals to step into these well-paying construction industry positions.

Likewise, the path to licensure in the construction trades (Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Carpentry/Framing) is tenuous at best, and requires connections that are out-of-reach for many of our local Durham citizens without the appropriate skills. Pursuing a career in construction trade-work often requires a baseline knowledge of the craft, in addition to hundreds of hours of on-the-job training. The hurdle?…Acquiring the baseline level of skill, and building relationships with industry employers who are in position to hire.

The Pre-Apprenticeship program fills both of these gaps and creates an avenue for employment into this lucrative field.
